West Pender Place by Tamar Frank

This is my first blog post on my own work: a light installation for West Pender Place in Vancouver. This is my largest commission to date and also a debut in North America. The developer of this residential building Reliance Properties specifically wanted to have a light art work integrated in the building to set it apart from the rest of the downtown high rise. I was approached to apply for this international competition which not expecting much. That was in in 2009 and now almost three years later my winning concept has been realised.

James Turrell – Celestial Vault

James Turrell was commissioned by the Art Centre Stroom for a site specific installation in The Hague back in 1996. I have already visited this work several times and the experience is always unique. This installation allows you to become aware of something phenomenal: the sky can be perceived as a celestial dome!
